East Sikkim
Each district of Sikkim has its own identity. East Sikkim is a land of unparallel beauty. Leisure, adventure, long treks or short walks, biking, rafting or mountaineering, birding or photographing nature's diversity even simply roaming around just meeting people of other culture and enjoying festivals in ever - changing landscape is undisputedly magnificent, awesome and mystic. East Sikkim is one of the four districts of Sikkim and is the most developed of the four districts as the capital of Sikkim is Gangtok situated in this district. It is the financial and tourism hub of Sikkim. East Sikkim has an added advantage of being the only place from where North Sikkim is easily assessable. Places like Chungthang, Lachen, Lachung, Phodong etc are all few hours drive from Gangtok. Sikkim is situated in an ecological hotspot and have more than fifty percent of the state covered with wildlife and rare flora, fauna of the lower Himalayas. Orchids, butterflies are the two major attractions of the state.
East Sikkim has the largest population of the state and has shopping malls, restaurant, etc. When in Sikkim try to taste the local dishes like Momos and Thukpas. Gangtok, Rangpo, Rhenock and Majitar are the four major towns and are the economical hub of the region. Rests of the tourist spot in Sikkim are all assessable from this district.

How to Reach
- Airways: Bagdogra airport (IXB) is approximately 130 kilometers from Gangtok and is 3 to 4 hours drive by car. Bagdogra airport (IXB) to Pelling is approximately 145 kilometers and is 4 to 5 hours drive by car. Chopper or helicopter (5 seater) service links Bagdogra Airport to Gangtok and is 45 minutes ride. Bagdogra Airport has regular flights from Kolkata, Delhi, Guwahati and Chennai. Private vehicles are available from station to various places of Sikkim.
- Railways: Nearest rail head is New Jalpaiguri Station and is approximately 120 kilometers from Gangtok, a 3 to 4 hours drive. Sikkim itself has no railway network or connectivity. New Jalpaiguri Railway Station (NJP) is well connected with rest of the country with frequent trains. Recently the government of India has started work to link New Jalpaiguri Station (NJP) to Rangpo the entry point of Sikkim. Hopefully in near future guest can directly get here by train.
- Roadways: National Highway Number 31 A links South and West Sikkim to West Bengal. The distance from New Jalpaiguri Station (NJP) / Bagdogra Airport to Gangtok is approximately 130 kilometers. Gangtok, Ravangla, Pelling, Rangpo are well connected by buses plying opposite to Siliguri North Bengal Bus Terminus run by Sikkim Nationalized Transport (SNT). Hired vehicles are available from Railways station and SNT terminus. Kalimpong, Darjeeling is less than 100 kilometers from Gangtok
