Assam
Assam pronunciation is a northeastern state of India with its capital at Dispur located in the city of Guwahati. Located south of the eastern Himalayas, Assam comprises the Brahmaputra and the Barak river valleys along with the Karbi Anglong and the North Cachar Hills with an area of 30,285 square miles (78,438 km²). Assam is surrounded by six of the other Seven Sister States: Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and Meghalaya. These states are connected to the rest of India via a narrow strip in West Bengal called the Siliguri Corridor. Assam also shares international borders with Bhutan and Bangladesh; and cultures, peoples and climate with South-East Asia - important elements in India’s Look East policy.
It is known for Assam tea, large and old petroleum resources, Assam silk and for its rich biodiversity. Assam has successfully conserved the one-horned Indian rhinoceros from near extinction, along with the tiger and numerous species of birds, and it provides one of the last wild habitats for the Asian elephant. It is becoming an increasingly popular destination for wild-life tourism, and Kaziranga and Manas are both World Heritage Sites. Assam was also known for its Sal tree forests and forest products, much depleted now. A land of high rainfall, Assam is endowed with lush greenery and the mighty river Brahmaputra, whose tributaries and oxbow lakes provide the region with a unique hydro-geomorphic and aesthetic environment.

Guwahati
Guwahati is the gateway way to the North East India. Known for its historical importance and the hub of North East Guwahati was always the center of tourist activities. How to Reach
- Airways – There are regular flights to and from Kolkata, Bagdogra, Delhi, Dimapur, Shillong, Lucknow and Dibrugarh. There are flights to all other major towns of north East India. Helicopter services are operated from Guwahati to Shillong Guwahati to Tura and Guwahati to Naharlagun (Itanagar). Guwahati is the major airport of North east India and is one of the busiest airports due to number of flight services of chopper to all the towns of seven sister’s state.
- Railways – Guwahati is the major junction of the Indian and the Northern Frontier Railway, it is well linked up with the rest of India.. Long distance trains are available for Kolkata, Chennai, Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi etc on daily basis. Rajdhani Express from Delhi, Saraighat Express from Kolkata, Dadar Express from Mumbai and Bangalore Express are some of the regular long distance trains. Guwahati is also linked with Dimapur, Tinsukia, Dibrugarh and Murkong - Selek.
- Roadways – Guwahati is the center or junction of national highway number 31, 37, 40 and 52. Delhi is 2160 kilometers, Mumbai is 3104 kilometers, Chennai is 2688 kilometers, Kolkata is 1164 kilometers, Siliguri is 513 kilometers, Thimpu is 549 kilometers and Agartala is nearly 600 kilometers. Meghalaya
Meghalaya is a small state in north-eastern India. The word "Meghalaya" literally means "The Abode of Clouds" in Sanskrit and other Indic languages. Meghalaya is a hilly strip in the eastern part of the country about 300 km long (east-west) and 100 km wide, with a total area of about 8,700 sq mi (22,720 km²). The state is bounded on the north by Assam and by Bangladesh on the south. The capital is Shillong also known as the Scotland of the East.
About one third of the state is forested. The Meghalaya subtropical forests ecoregion encompasses the state; its mountain forests are distinct from the lowland tropical forests to the north and south. The forests of Meghalaya are notable for their biodiversity of mammals, birds, and plants.
Shillong
Shillong – It is in the East Khasi Hills district and is situated at an average altitude of 4908 feet / 1496 meters with the highest point Lum Shyllong at 1965 meters. Shillong is the capital city of Meghalaya. Meghalaya means the abode of clouds. The state is an embodiment of eternal bliss and tranquility wrapped in utter beauty. The place acquires its charm from the picturesque locales, bountiful nature, the climatic condition, fresh and sedating surroundings with the exclusive and rare flora and fauna. How to Reach
- By Air – Nearest Major Airport is Guwahati with direct flights available from Kolkata, Delhi and Bagdogra on daily basis. Guwahati has link to the rest of the country and with Bangkok. From Shillong the nearest airport is at Umroi, 35 kilometers from Shillong, which connects this lovely town of Tura by air. There is a helicopter service from Guwahati Airport to Shillong.
- By Rail – There are no rail network in Meghalaya. The nearest major railhead is at Guwahati, which is at a distance of 103 kilometers. Guwahati is well connected with the rest of the country by broad gauge rail, road and airways. Guwahati has regular trains to different cities of India.
- Roadways - Shillong is connected by a road with the rest of the country through Guwahati and Silchar. Regular bus service is available to and from Guwahati. Generally it takes around 3 hours to reach Shillong from Guwahati by road. Private vehicles are also available. Jowai is 66 kilometers and Nongstoin is 93 kilometers. Places like Sohra / Cherrapunjee is 49 kilometers, Tura is 323 kilometers and Williamnagar is 312 kilometers from Shillong.
